MIAMI -- Ryan Zimmerman made up for lost time and immediately tested the injury that resulted in a lengthy absence. Zimmerman returned to the lineup and had two hits, including an RBI triple, in his return to the lineup and the Washington Nationals beat the Miami Marlins 3-2 Saturday night. "It was fun to be out there and be part of the team and be out with the guys in a really good win," Zimmerman said. Zimmerman, who missed 55 games because of a hamstring injury, had his run-scoring triple to key Washingtons three-run seventh inning. Asdrubal Caberas RBI triple tied the score at 2-2 and chased Miami starter Jarred Cosart, and Denard Spans single off reliever Mike Dunn put the Nationals ahead. Washington starter Jordan Zimmermann (13-5) gave up two runs and five hits over six innings. He struck out four and stayed in the game and finished the inning despite getting hit by a line drive from Casey McGehee to start the sixth. Second baseman Cabrera retrieved the ball and threw McGehee out. "It happened so fast," Zimmermann said. "I saw the ball coming and thought that it was stopped. I just tried turning and lift my shoulder. I was lucky enough that it hit my shoulder and not my face. "Its a little sore -- pretty tight right now but it will be fine. Its not going to affect me." Nationals manager Matt Williams and assistant trainer Steve Gober immediately raced to the mound to check on Zimmermann. "He was pitching well, he could certainly go longer but not with something like that," Williams said. "Were not going to take any chances there. "Its scary but I think hes going to come out of it fine." Aaron Barrett and Tyler Clippard pitched perfect innings in the seventh and eighth, and Drew Storen gave up one-out singles to Marcel Ozuna and Justin Bour in the ninth before he retired pinch hitter Garrett Jones on a game-ending double play for his ninth save in 12 opportunities. Cosart (4-3) was charged with all three runs and gave up nine hits in 6 1-3 innings. He walked two and struck out two. "I wasnt sharp, I wasnt down," Cosart said. "Throw a bad pitch, a lot of balls in the middle of the plate. Theyve won 90 games for a reason and thats what theyre supposed to do with those pitches." NL East champion Washington moved 2 1/2 games ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers for best record in the league. The loss eliminated Miami from wild-card contention. "Im proud of these guys," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said. "Weve battled through a lot of adversity - theyve given me everything they have every single day. "Losing (right fielder Giancarlo Stanton) was a big blow -- a big blow to our team and to our offence and to our lineup." Miami avoided a bigger inning in the seventh when Zimmerman was thrown out at home on a fielders choice. The Nationals appealed call but the video review upheld the call that catcher Jeff Mathis tagged Zimmermans left leg before it crossed home plate. "The ball, when Im on third, it was instincts and I go and I went," Zimmerman said. "I probably shouldnt have gone. Everythings fine nothing happened but looking back, it wasnt the smartest thing to do." Bours RBI single in the first put the Marlins on the scoreboard, and they doubled their lead in the fourth when Reed Johnson doubled to centre and scored on two throwing errors on the play. ZIMMERMANN STARTS The Nationals won their 10th consecutive game in a game started by Zimmermann. ROVING HARPER Zimmerman started in left field as Williams gave Bryce Harper the night off. With Zimmerman expected to play many of the Nationals remaining games in left field, Williams plans on utilizing Harper in the other outfield positions. "Harps got the ability to play all three," Williams said. "He may move around a little bit the next two, three games in the outfield to give Zim a chance." UP NEXT Stephen Strasburg (12-11, 3.34) will start for the Nationals in the series finale on Sunday. The Marlins will go with struggling Nathan Eovaldi (6-12, 4.48). There was speculation that Miami was going to shut down Eovaldi for the remainder of the season. Eovaldi, 24, has lost his last six decisions and has surrendered 26 earned runs in 35 innings during his winless stretch. "We believe in this guy and his stuff," Redmond said. "Hes pitched a lot of innings this year and whether hes getting a bit tired or whatever but thats part of being a major league starter and pitching 200 innings." Erik Gudbranson Jersey . Dallas also Monday recalled defenceman Aaron Rome from his conditioning assignment with the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League and assigned goaltender Jack Campbell to the AHL squad. Ben Hutton Jersey . Behind the talents of rookie Johnny Gaudreau, the Flames will look to keep pace Thursday night when they face the Minnesota Wild in the second of a six-game homestand. http://www.authentichockeyshopcanucks.com/Pavel-Bure-Jersey/. Anything less than gold for either nation is considered a disappointment.   Yet for Switzerland, advancing to the semifinal might be a victory in itself. Sam Gagner Jersey Reid Boucher Jersey . UEFA said Wednesday that the champions of England and France only have to include five home-trained players in their 21-man squads next season instead of the expected eight. Only one of the five players needs to be trained by the club itself.USAF Academy, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - The Ram-Falcon Trophy is up for grabs on Friday afternoon, as the 21st-ranked Colorado State Rams clash with the Air Force Falcons in the regular season finale for both Mountain West Conference programs. This game is significant for the Rams for a number of reasons, most notably being that it could be the gateway to the Mountain Division title if they win and the Boise State Broncos fall to Utah State. One of the hottest teams in college football right now, since losing to the Broncos in the conference opener way back on Sept .6 by a score of 37-24, the Rams have been untouchable as they ride a nine-game win streak. Last week, the team throttled yet another opponent as it ran over New Mexico in a 58-20 final in the last home game of the season. Thats a 10-win team you guys just saw out there, Colorado State head coach Jim McElwain said after the triumph. Thats something else. And the way they went about their business and just went out and played the game the way it should be, it was good to see. While the Rams get much of the attention in the conference, along with the Broncos now, Air Force has quietly put together an impressive run of success as well. The team had rattled off four consecutive victories before being turned away by San Diego State in the final road game of the season, 30-14. Still, the Academy is five games over .500 on the campaign and has been anything but an easy target for conference foes this season. Air Force maintains a 31-20-1 edge in the all-time series with the Rams, although CSU blew the Academy away last season in a 58-13 final in Fort Collins. Colorado State took no mercy on the Lobos last week, rolling up a program- record 698 yards of total offense as all phases of the game rose up to dominate. The best performance came from running back Dee Hart who carried the ball just 20 times, but ended up with 230 yards and five touchdowns. Throw in two receptions for 42 yards and another score and it was easy to see why he was named the MWC Offensive Player of the Week. Also having outstanding games yet again were quarterback Garrett Grayson and wideout Rashard Higgins. The signal caller converted all but six of his pass attempts for 389 yards and three touchdowns, and the receiver grabbed 10 passes for 167 yards and two scores. Even when defenses know hes probably going to get the ball, Higgins still makes big playys.dddddddddddd. Four times this season Higgins has had double-digit receptions, and only once has he failed to reach at least 100 yards. He has scored a total of 15 TDs, at least one in all but two games, which is why he has been named a finalist for the prestigious Biletnikoff Award, presented to the nations top receiver. I am incredibly humbled and honored to be a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award. To even be in this position for an award named after a Hall of Famer is something that wouldnt be possible without being a part of an amazing team; coaches, teammates and all of the support we have. This is a dream come true, but it is truly a team award and we still have a lot to accomplish to reach our goals. Higgins is in this position due to the efforts of Grayson who has completed 66.8 percent of his passes for 310.3 ypg and a stunning 29 TDs, against just five interceptions. It has also helped that defenses now also pay more attention to Hart, the Alabama transfer who has gained 1,139 yards and scored 16 TDs of his own. Over on the other side, the Falcons could be entering this game without a couple of key components following their loss to San Diego State. Running back Jacobi Owens, who missed the SDSU meeting, is expected to miss this final game due to a foot injury, and quarterback Kale Pearson is listed as questionable for an undisclosed reason as preparations begin for the arrival of CSU. Last week, Pearson converted 10-of-22 passes for 171 yards and a score, adding a team-best 59 rushing yards on 14 attempts, although the Falcons came up quite short of expectations in their running game with a mere 140 yards and one TD on 41 carries. On the defensive side of the ball, even though the Academy absorbed the loss, Weston Steelhammer still lived up to his hype as he made a game-high 11 stops and registered an interception. Fifth on the team in tackles with 48, Steelhammer has three sacks and a team-best five INTs, to go along with two recovered fumbles and a safety. The unit ranks 47th in the nation in points allowed, giving up 24.2 ppg, which is an important stat given that the Air Force offense is missing some key parts most likely. Obviously, with the potential change in quarterback the Falcons will be keeping the ball on the ground even more where they are seventh in the country with 274.9 ypg, even though Owens will not be there to take any hand-offs.
